Scott is a prolific author — writing on a variety of substantive legal issues, business, insurance and reinsurance topics, and litigation practice matters. He has served on Law360's Insurance Editorial Advisory Board and as an expert commentator for Lexis/Nexis on insurance and reinsurance law. His legal writings have been cited by the highest courts of the States of Arizona, Kentucky, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Hampshire, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, as well as by numerous other state and federal appellate and trial courts across the country.
Scott's two volume insurance law treatise,  Allocation of Losses in Complex Insurance Claims (12th Ed. Thomson Reuters 2024), addresses many of the issues driving contemporary insurance claims and coverage litigation and reinsurance cessions and arbitrations.
Scott conceived the book entitled Wrongful Death & Survival Actions for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and has served as the general editor and contributing author of the book for the past 30-plus years. Scott has co-authored non-legal publications, including Conquering And Curing Cancer – The Cancer Survival Book. 
Scott is co-chair of the firm's global Insurance Services Practice Group, is core industry leader for the insurance industry, and serves on the firm's Executive Committee. Under his leadership, the Insurance Services Practice Group is ranked in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, Insurance: Dispute Resolution – Illinois, California, and Florida and nationally. It earned a National Tier 1 rating in the Best Law Firms list published by U.S. News – Best Lawyers, as well as Tier 1 regional ratings in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Miami.
